Lesson Plan: Korea


Class: Geography
Grades: 9-12
Time needed: 1-2 days

Objective: The students will be able to discuss general features of Korea to included its current events.


Materials: One computer with web access and overhead projection system. If this is not available, printouts of the pages will be given to students or put on overhead projector.


Activities: Go back to some general Asian sites that were seen during the Asian lesson. The first one will be Asia Info, which includes many countries. From this page we will go to the Korean Herald newpaper to discuss current events. Next we can discuss clothing, housing and food in Korea. We will then discuss the physical geography of Korea. This can also include the weather and climate. We will then discuss Korean culture. Kimchi is one of the main foods of Korea. From there we will go to the capital city of Korea, Seoul. We will end by discussing the major port city of Korea, Pusan.


Closure: Ask students to give examples of each of the aspects of Korea that we discussed.


Evaluation: Traditional test with essay dealing with how Korean geography and current events interact.
